OPEN ENROLLMENT 2010-2011

The Mount Horeb Area School District will be taking Open Enrollment applications for the 2010-2011 school year from February 1, 2010, through February 19, 2010.  Open Enrollment allows parents to apply for their children in five-year old Kindergarten to grade 12 to attend any public school district in the State of Wisconsin.  There is no tuition cost for parents to participate in this program.  However, parents are responsible for transporting their children to and from school.  For a complete description of the Open Enrollment program please go to the Open Enrollment link attached to our school website www.mhasd.k12.wi.us.  If after reading the information regarding the program you would like an open enrollment application form or have any questions pertaining to the open enrollment process, please contact either Jackie Brager at 437-2400 extension 1210 or Dr. Wayne Anderson at 437-2400 extension 1211. 
 

Kindergarten Registration 2010-2011

If you have a child who will be five years old on or before Sept. 1, 2010, you need to register him/her with the school district. You may register your child at the Early Learning Center (300 Spellman Street) between the hours of 8:00am-4:00pm Monday through Friday when school is in session.  This year, we are also offering two evening opportunities, Monday, December 7 and Thursday, December 10 from 6:00-8:00 PM.  Please bring your child’s birth certificate and a proof of residency when registering.  You will also have the opportunity to sign up for a Kindergarten Screening appointment during registration.  Kindergarten screening will be held on Friday April 16, 2010.  Please call Nicole Tepe at (608) 437-2400 (Ext. 5134) if you have any questions. 
 

Early Entrance to Kindergarten 

Parents/Guardians are allowed the right to petition for early admission to kindergarten if their child is eligible.

The Mount Horeb Area School Board has revised Policy #421.1 LEGAL AGE, KINDERGARTEN PUPILS to include the following  conditions and procedures:

  ?  The child’s fifth birthday should be after September 1 and before January 1, inclusive.

  ?  The child demonstrates academic, social, emotional, physical and mental maturity normally expected for successful participation in kindergarten.

Procedures required:

  ?  Written request made by the child’s parent(s)/guardian by March 15 to the school district administrator.

       If parent(s)/guardian move into the district after March 15, a request must be submitted at least two weeks  prior to the beginning of the school year.

  ?  Screening, observation and evaluation  by district personnel will determine the eligibility for early entrance to kindergarten.
