Student Academic Standards:

Annual School Board Declaration and Parent Notice of District Standards

Geography and History: Mount Horeb Area School District aligns its Social Studies curriculum to the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards in Social Studies.  The Wisconsin Model Academic Standards focus on five strands of social studies: behavioral science, economics, geography, history, and political science.  At the elementary and middle school levels, these five strands of social studies are integrated during a social studies class.  At the high school level, these strands are developed into specific courses, such as Economics, Psychology, and Modern United States History.  These standards can be found at http://dpi.wi.gov/social-studies/standards.

Mathematics: Mount Horeb Area School District aligns its Mathematics curriculum to the Common Core State Standards as formerly adapted to Wisconsin by the Department of Public Instruction.  Efforts will continue to align current and new curricular programs and practices to these standards.  These standards can be found at http://dpi.wi.gov/sites/default/files/imce/standards/pdf/common-core-math-standards.pdf.

Reading and Writing: Mount Horeb Area School District aligns its reading and writing curriculum to the Common Core State Standards as formerly adapted to Wisconsin by the Department of Public Instruction.  Efforts will continue to align current and new curricular programs and practices to these standards.  These standards can be found at https://dpi.wi.gov/sites/default/files/imce/standards/pdf/ela-stds-app-a-revision.pdf

Science: Mount Horeb Area School District is currently transitioning from the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards for Science to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).  During this transition, student practices/skills, repetitive concepts, and disciplinary ideas will be examined, added, and/or realigned.  These standards can be searched by grade level by topic at http://www.nextgenscience.org/overview-topics
