SOLO/ENSEMBLE FESTIVALIn just TWO WEEKS (!) we will be hosting the Badger Conference Solo/Ensemble Festival - Saturday, February 24. Students have chosen to perform live at the festival or to record their performance and submit it to Miss Dangerfield by February 23. The students are preparing several different events: classical solos, musical theater solos, duets, trios, regular quartets, barbershop quartets, and a new category called "Contemporary A Cappella."The Mount Horeb Music Department is very committed to this big project, as it provides our students with many benefits. This event gives students the opportunity to zero in on their own strengths and weakesses. Students have to be responsible about keeping weekly lesson appointments and rehearsing on their own between lessons. Students must weigh several different factors when putting their groups together - and must work together when running their own rehearsals. Several different aspects of performance are presented to the participants - and they are asked to assess their progress on each aspect throughout the weeks of preparation. Students research their pieces to learn about their composer and the time period and style in which it was written. They find good (and bad) examples to listen to, to make decisions about how they wish to handle their own performance.HELP!
Since we are hosting this monumental event, we will be needing a LOT of volunteers to make it happen: setup and teardown, room monitors, concessions and more. On the Mount Horeb Music Boosters site, there is a place where you can go to sign up. Out-of-town music teachers and parents always comment on how well-run our festival is - and that's because of the great support we get from you!+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
